Questions

Before you switch it on.

How does it know what counts as an emergency?

By what the caller describes, against the rules you set, swelling, trauma, bleeding, severe pain. The threshold is yours, and you can make it cautious, which most practices do at the start and relax later.

Who gets woken up?

Whoever is on call, from the rota you keep, and nobody else. Routine calls never reach a person at night; they leave a message and get a text first thing in the morning.

What does the on-call dentist get?

A summary before the call connects, who is calling, what they described, and their history if they are an existing patient, so they are not answering a cold phone at eleven at night.

What if the on-call person does not pick up?

It escalates down the list you define, and falls back to a message with an immediate morning follow-up rather than leaving the caller with nothing.

Can different locations have different rules?

Yes. Closing times, holidays, on-call rotas and escalation paths are per location, which matters as soon as you have offices in different time zones or with different hours.

Do we have to use your answering service?

No. Overflow can go to the service you already use, to Nia, or to voicemail with a morning text. The routing is yours to decide, per hour and per call type.
